Common Batangueno Words

Here are common words you will hear if you are visiting or speaking with Batangueno:

1.  Papag - higaan o kama
2.  Yagyag - nagmamadali
3.  Tubal - maruming damit
4.  Hagalpakan - tawanan
5.  Kural - kulungan ng baboy o hayop
6.  Labangan - lalagyan ng pagkain ng baboy
7.  Tagay - babae
8.  Barik - inum ng alak
9.  Bange - ihaw
10.  Dubdub - siga ng apoy
11.  Pakloy - paga ang labi
12.  Ampiyas - ulan na dala ng hangin
13.  Ista - isda

Barako Coffee

No one can forget the aroma taste of this barako coffee.  Barako coffee is perfect for morning with or without pandesal or bread.  Some coffee drinkers mix milk or creamier to this coffee to add extra ordinary taste.  But, according to coffee lovers, it is best to sip barako coffee without additional condiments except sugar for best taste. 

Barakong kape as commonly called by Batanguenos is widely grows in Lipa Batangas.  That is why, Lipa Batangas is regarded as the coffee capital and they have coffee festival to celebrate this achievement. 

Through generations, there are many large producers of barako coffee and due to its demand, they have repackaged the product to maintain the high quality of the coffee.  It is now available worlwide and can be bought in major supermarkets.  But of course, it is much expensive.

Balisong (fan knife)

Balisong or fan knife is very popular in Batangas.  In Taal, Batangas, you can buy genuine balisong in stores or being displayed in major roads to capture the attention of prospect buyers or tourist.  According to local manufacturer who gave a tip on how to choose original balisong, it can tear 1 peso coin without deforming its edge. 

There are many versions and styles of this small pocket knife.  One popular style is the double bladed.  It is has sharp on one edge and an spade like but mere design on one edge.  Ordinary balisong has only one sharp edge.  In some cases, balisong is used for self defense.  But be careful, it is also regarded as deadly weapon and you can be charged for illegal possesion most especially if you are travelling like in airports, seaports and even malls.
